American vice–Un-American, Anti-American

Tonight, I feel a powerful need to speak out. Over the past weekend, Thursday through Monday, 14-17 December 2023, perhaps up to 100 threats were received by Jewish synagogues, liberal Christian churches, and airports in Mississippi. The ugliness has occurred earlier this month in New Hampshire, Maine, New York, Florida, California, Michigan, Ohio. It extends to other groups, primarily transgender individuals, gays and lesbians, blacks, immigrants and Latino persons. These actions may have a long history among American public, but it is undemocratic, anti-American.

Any politician who approves of and/or uses rhetoric which praises such action is likewise anti-American. My making these statement does not limit itself to the former president, but to any local, county, school board, state, and national office holder who speaks in any way in support of such rhetoric and/or actions. One U.S. senator lightly dismissed the rhetoric as mere words, not worthy of making an issue of their use. He was referring to the phrase, “poisoning our blood,” used recently in a campaign speech, comes from Mein Kampf; we should know what Hitler did when given power. You are the electorate; you have the responsibility to vote and to campaign (speaking out) against such persons.

I challenge each of you to research in a variety of sources to verify the reliability of my words. I challenge you to read Liz Cheney’s Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning. In order to become aware that anti-democratic movements have previously flourished in the United States, I refer you to Rachel Maddow’s book, Prequel: An American Fight. I encourage you to read my post, reproducing a guest editorial in the New York Times, 10 September 2023, on my website https://jamesfarmercartwright.com/2023/09/14/democracys‑assassins‑always‑have‑accomplices/. This election cycle is vital to the surviving of American democracy. An old saying among some Mormons indicates that in some future time the Constitution of the United States would “hang by a thread;” if it survives, it may or will do so because of the loyalty of the Elders of the Church.

The Doctrine and Covenants shows the LDS Church’s position that the Constitution is inspired of God and we should strive to protect it to be established forever. (D&C 101:77-80 and 109:54.)
