Election 2024 (#1)

I haven’t written on politics for several weeks, thinking I was a dog baying at the moon. Well it’s a full moon, actually a rare blue moon in the middle of a month, so I’m back to baying.

I read earlier today that a retired judge in the federal judiciary system who had always voted Republican, had written his support of Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. So I clicked on links and searched.

My search produced this web link but it consisted of a frame of comments to the brief quote from the judge’s writing. This site did not have the judge’s actual essay. It did have the link below to the actual document the judge wrote.

Justice Michael Luttig’s actual endorsement can be read here. I invite each of you to read this and consider what he says.

Justice Luttig is not the only conservative Republican who is reevaluating the importance of this campaign. I also understood that in the past week thousands of Americans have connected to a site created for Republicans supporting Kamala Harris’ for president.. A search in Google for “Republicans for Harris” led me to several sites. I could not go to all of them and still write this short in a timely manner. The organization, Republicans for Harris, has several state affiliates. Enough to say, there are many Republicans beyond former senators Cheney and Romney who do not wish to have Donald Trump as president again.

In case you wonder, I am so grateful the President Biden withdrew from the race and turned the campaign to Vice President Harris. I’m thrilled. I have positive hope that Harris will win in November and the American democracy will survive this latest test.
