Montreal, 2024

I originally was planning on posting one essay on Wally’s and my trip from Montreal to Quebec then to Boston on a cruise to see the various sites in fall colors. We have far too many photographs; I have tried to whittle these down and have limited some images to Montreal and Quebec, but to
get them sent to the website with the dates and times of the actual images has taken me far longer than I had anticipated. So, I’m now going to send out Montreal. If I get to later sections, I’ll post those sections. Please don’t pass out from lack of oxygen caused by holding your breath.

On our first night in Montreal, 7 October, we went to a café in the neighborhood of our hotel. While sitting waiting for the food we had ordered, we noticed a commotion outside at the intersection. It was a pro-Palestinian parade and rally. Everything very peaceful.

On the next day, we visited Dorchester Square and the Basilica Marie, Reine du Monde which is the Roman Catholic cathedral in Montreal.

Among other places in Montreal, our tour took us to Parc Jean-Drapeau on an island in the St. Lawrence River. Here we visited the Geodesic Dome which was the USA Pavilion at Expo 76 in Montreal.

On our last full day in Montreal, our tour went to the top of Mount Royal. Beaver Lake (Lac aux Castors) has a walkway partway around it with maple trees, and a view of the city. I enjoyed taking pictures of the maple trees. Their exterior leaves turn colors before the interior and more shaded leaves turn.

The next day, we left on a VIA train to Quebec before embarking on the Holland America cruise ship, Zuiderdam. Details on Quebec, Charlottetown, Halifax, Sidney, Portland, and Boston come later, maybe.
